Je suis un masque de théâtre traditionnel japonais. Les acteurs me portaient afin de représenter un personnage très en colère. Mes narines dilatées, ma bouche retournée, et mes sourcils froncés sont très marqués afin d’être vus par tous les spectateurs, même ceux éloignés de la scène.
I am a mask used in traditional Japanese theatre. The actors would wear me to represent someone very angry. My flared nostrils, downturned mouth and knitted eyebrows are heavily emphasised so they can be seen by all of the audience, even those far from the stage.
أنا قناعٌ من المسرح الياباني التقليدي. يضعني الممثّلون من أجل أن يجسّدوا شخصيّة في منتهى الغضب. إنّ منخريّ المتّسعين، وفمي المزموم، وحاجبيّ المقطّبين، كلّها واضحة جدا كي يراها جميع المتفرّجين، حتى أولئك الجالسون بعيدا عن منصّة المسرح.
J’ai été sculpté dans un bloc de bois japonais, appelé hinoki, puis peint.
I was carved out of a block of Japanese wood called hinoki, then I was painted.
نُحِتُّ من قطعة خشب ياباني، يسمّى «هينوكي»، ثم صُبغت بالطلاء.
